Update the Agent

Updates to the Linux Monitoring Agent are regularly released to include new features, enhanced functionality, support for additional vendors along with general improvements. To take advantage of these improvements we suggest updating your Linux Monitoring Agents on a regular basis.

As part of our Agent release policy we support the current (including RC (Release Candidate)) and previous GA (General Availability) Agent on a rolling basis. Refer to the Linux Monitoring Agent Release Notes section for information on the contents of each release.

We have included the option to upgrade the Agent on one or more devices to match your company's software roll-out policy, and support a mixed update strategy. For example, update all servers at the Client or Site level then use the individual device option to exclude specific servers or manually update each Agent on the server.

Where configured in the Dashboard the update process begins the next time the Agent communicates with the Dashboard and installs the Agent without any user interaction.

Agent updates are performed regardless of the distribution version, which may not officially be supported by the selected version of the Linux Agent.

To verify the source of any future updates we recommend installing the Linux Monitoring Agent package GPG (GNU Privacy Guard) key.

Automatic Update (GA Agents Only)

Log into the Dashboard to set the GA Agent update policy for all servers, or servers at specific Clients and Sites.

Requires Linux Monitoring Agent 2.0.1 or later installed on the device.

Agent Auto Update Dialog

  1. When in the Dashboard navigate to the Agent menu
  2. Go to Agent Auto-update Settings to view the Agent Auto Update dialog
  3. Select the node level to apply the update to in the left menu (all Servers, specific Clients or Sites)
  4. Choose the required action in the dialogs' north pane.
    • ServersUpdate All Linux Servers to the latest Agent
    • ClientUpdate All Linux Servers at this Client and associated Sites or choose to update the specified Individual Servers to the latest Agent
    • Site: Update All Linux Servers at this Site or choose to update the specified Individual Servers to the latest Agent
  5. Click Save to apply and exit out of the dialog

By default servers inherit the update settings from the Site, which will in turn inherit the update settings from the Client, which will in turn inherit update settings for all servers.

To help identify devices that may be running an older version of the Agent the expandable left-hand tree displays a visual indication of the current Agent version status for the Client and Site nodes.

  • Green circle: latest Agent on all devices
  • Green circle and red triangle: mixture of older and latest Agents on the devices
  • Red triangle: mixture of older Agents on all devices
