Migrate from Linux Monitoring Agent v1 to v2.0

Important: the below steps only apply when migrating from Linux Monitoring Agent Version 1 to specifically Linux Monitoring Agent Version 2.0.

All Linux Monitoring Agents from version 2.0.1 onwards support an upgrade path from Linux Monitoring Agent Version 1 that does not require the uninstallation of the existing Agent and retains the device's data. Review Update the Agent for information on the upgrade process.

Before upgrading from Linux Monitoring Agent Version 1 to 2.0, we suggest reviewing the supported Distributions (overview or detail) and dependencies.

Site Installation Package or Manual Migration

One of two migration options may be applied when upgrading to Linux Monitoring Agent Version 2. Either use the Remote Worker Site Installation Package for automatic deployments (this requires minimal end-user interaction to migrate) or use manually install.

Follow the steps in Site Installation Package to download and install the Remote Worker package, or use the Install the Agent process to download then install the Agent.

Whichever method is chosen to migrate to Linux Monitoring Agent Version 2.0 a warning message appears when running the installer on a device with Linux Monitoring Agent Version 1 installed. This message informs the user that Agent 1.0 will be uninstalled during the installation and its data removed from the Dashboard. Answer "y" to continue or "n" to abort the upgrade process.

Uninstalling Linux Monitoring Agent Version 1 not only removes the device from the Dashboard but also deletes all of its history. Before performing this migration we suggest copying all of the information and reports you require for the device.

Note that Legacy Agent settings aren't compatible with Agent 2.0.0
Warning: all existing device data will be removed from the Dashboard
Following actions will be performed:
1. Existing device will be removed from the Dashboard
2. Agent will be upgraded to version 2.0.0
3. Agent will be registered at the Dashboard using provided credentials
Are you sure? [y/n]

For Site Installation Package deployments the installation will then proceed without further user interaction, registering the device with the Dashboard.

When migrating manually, the user is guided through the registration to re-add the device to the Dashboard.
