Install the Site Installation Package over a network

One option to deploy the Agent over an Active Directory network is with the Group Policy Site Installation Package.

When installing software via Group Policy you can op to Assign or Publish.

Assign

Silently installs software either per-computer when the computer starts (advised) or per-user when the user logs on.

Publish

Adds software to Add/Remove Programs list for user to decide whether to install. This option is not available for computer based configuration.

We suggest using Assign (as it does not require any user interaction to install the software) combined with the per-machine Computer Configuration option. This ensures that regardless of who logs in, the Agent is installed the next time the computer restarts.

As this is our suggested method to install the Agent over Group Policy, it is the technique we will focus on in the following sections. These cover the creation and sharing of the software distribution point, along with the deployment, updating and removal of the Agent via Group Policy.
