Remote Monitoring & Management Help

Manual Deployment using RPM (Red Hat Package Management)

The Agent is available as an rpm file and as such it is possible to automatically install the package from the command line.

Enter rpm -Uhv and the location of the package for this distribution and architecture, for example its repository position:

# rpm -Uhv http://repos.*/rmmagent/distribution/architecture/rmmagent-*.i386.rpm

# rpm -Uhv http://repos.*/rmmagent/distribution/architecture/rmmagent-*.x86_64.rpm

A CentOS example:

# rpm -Uhv http://repos.systemmonitor.co.uk/rmmagent/CentOS_5/i386/rmmagent-0.7.0.centos5-1.2.i386.rpm

# rpm -Uhv http://repos.systemmonitor.co.uk/rmmagent/CentOS_5/x86_64/rmmagent-0.7.0.centos5-1.2.x86_64.rpm

-U : installs the package removing any older versions (if they exist). -U instead of -i is the recommend usage for most new software installs when using the rpm command.

-h : hash, displays hash marks to indicate activity

-v : verbose, displays any additional information

The command initiates the download and installation of the Agent onto the target device:

# rpm -Uhv http://repos.*/rmmagent/distribution/architecture/rmmagent-*.i386.rpm

Retrieving http://repos.*/rmmagent/distribution/architecture/rmmagent-*.i386.rpm
