OSX Update Check

This Check queries the Operating System through softwareupdate to determine whether there are any OS X software updates available.

Where a Check is added or edited the new settings are downloaded to the Agent the next time it communicates back to the Dashboard and applied when the Check runs after that.

Dashboard Check configuration

Add

  1. Select the workstation in the north pane of the Dashboard
  2. Go to the Checks tab
  3. Add Check
  4. Choose Add DSC > OSX Update Check 
  5. Set the If updates found behavior:
    1. ReportMode, if errors are found then: Alerts are not sent - Green tick on the Dashboard

      AlertMode, if errors are found then: Alerts are sent - red exclamation box on the Dashboard

      In either mode summary information is available on the discovered events by clicking the More Information column on the Dashboard

  6. OK to save and apply

Edit

  1. Select the workstation in the north pane of the Dashboard
  2. Go to the Checks tab
  3. Select the target OSX Update Check
  4. From the Check drop-down
  5. Edit Check (also available from the Check's right-click menu)
  6. Configure the If updates found settings
  7. OK to save and apply

Delete

  1. Select the workstation in the north pane of the Dashboard
  2. Go to the Checks tab
  3. Select the target OSX Update Check
  4. From the Check drop-down
  5. Delete Check (also available from the Check's right-click menu)
  6. Enter the password you have logged into the Dashboard under to confirm removal
  7. OK to delete

Dashboard

Once uploaded to the Dashboard the More Information dialog contains information on the available updates

  1. Select the workstation in the north pane of the Dashboard
  2. Go to the Checks tab
  3. Click the More Information link against the target OSX Update Check

This dialog includes the update Name, Size, whether it is Recommended and if a Reboot is required to install the update.
