Checks the targeted page source to ensure the entered text is returned. An Alert is generated where the text is not discovered as this is indicative of a problem with the site, for example it may be that it is unreachable or the content has changed.
There are various uses for this check including:
Monitor Client’s websites. Although it is possible you do not support the website, our users use this check to illustrate the exceptional standard of care they provide to their customers.
"Even though we don't maintain your website, we'll monitor it anyway and give you a courtesy call when there's something wrong with it."
Query an application's browser based interface or publish application information to a webpage and use the Web Page Check to determine whether the required test is, or is not, there.
Ensure the ADSL static IP address for the server has not changed. To do this query a Show My IP type address site and enter the current static IP address as the Expected Text. When the IP address changes the check will fail.
The check is configured via the Dashboard:
Add : from the Add Check drop-down go to Add 24x7 Check, Web Site Check.
Enter the URL to query and the Expected Text*.
The check uses the page source to determine whether the page is accessible. Please use your browser’s View Source option to ensure the Expected Text string selected matches exactly the text string contained with the page source.
The Number of consecutive before an Alert is sent may be configured, where this threshold is exceeded an Alert is generated and the Check reported as failed on the Dashboard.
Edit : select the required Web Site Check in the lower pane then from the Checks drop-down Edit Check and configure the URL, Expected Text or Number of consecutive failures before alert sent: as required.
Where a Check is added or edited the new settings are downloaded to the Agent the next time it communicates back to the Dashboard and applied when the Check runs after that.
Delete : select the required Web Site Check in the lower pane then from the Checks drop-down Delete. Enter the password of the user you have logged on to the Dashboard under to confirm deletion.
Tips for Best Usage:
|•||To avoid being alerted every time some text changes on the website page, what many of our users do is have the client add a specific page with some specific text that never changes. That way, if alerts are received, you know they're genuine.|
