Mail Assure Help

Mailboxes Configuration

The Mailbox Configuration pages allow you to auto-discover addresses via recipient callout verification, control whether newly discovered mailboxes are filtered, and manage mailbox filtering, archiving, and aliases in a central location. It replaces the old Local Recipients page.

What do you want to do?

Configuration Tab - Admin Level

  • Apply a mailbox alias as the envelope sender on outgoing messages - Enable this at the Admin Level from General > Mailbox Configuration > Configuration and ticking Rewrite sender addresses
  • Reject outgoing messages where the envelope sender address is outside of this domain - Enforce this at the Admin Level from General > Mailbox Configuration > Configuration by ticking Enforce sender domain
  • Reject outgoing messages where the envelope sender address is not in the mailboxes list - Enforce this at the Admin Level from General > Mailbox Configuration > Configuration by ticking Enforce sender mailbox
  • Automatically add envelope sender addresses to the mailboxes list - Set this up at the Admin Level from General > Mailbox Configuration > Configuration and select Automatically discover senders to automatically add envelope sender addresses to the mailboxes list.

Configuration Tab - Domain Level

  • Control whether newly discovered mailboxes are filtered - Set this up at the Domain Level from General > Mailbox Configuration > Configuration and select either Protect all mailboxes by default or Protect specific mailboxes only under the Mailbox protection and processing mode dropdown
  • Reject email to mailboxes not listed in the "Mailboxes" tab - To control whether mail to mailboxes not listed in the Mailboxes tab is rejected or accepted, enable or disable this feature from the Domain Level from General > Mailbox Configuration > Configuration
  • Set the date and time options for the domain - Select a timezone and the date and time format for the domain.

If you want to use business continuity (i.e. you can still send and receive mail when your mail server is down), you must ensure that your mailbox list is up-to-date with all recipients and senders and Reject email to mailboxes not listed in the "Mailboxes" tab is selected. Mail Assure will accept and queue messages for all listed mailboxes. Since you won't be able to perform a lookup to your server, leaving this unticked will result in Mail Assure sending a temp reject for inbound messages.

Mailboxes Tab

  • Auto-discover local mailbox addresses via recipient callout verification - Set this up at the Domain Level from General > Mailbox Configuration > Mailboxes and Enable Automatically populate the list with mailboxes determined valid by the destination mailserver.
  • Manage mailbox filtering (with the option to overrule the default setting per mailbox) - Set this up in the Mailboxes tab. See Mailboxes Configuration.
  • Whitelist a recipient by turning off filtering on their mailbox - See Mailboxes Configuration.
  • Enable Archiving for specific mailboxes - Set this up in the Mailboxes tab, in the Edit mailbox or Edit multiple mailboxes dialog in the Archiving enabled section. See Mailboxes Configuration. See Restrict Archiving to Specific Mailboxes.
  • Manage email aliases - Perform alias management tasks in the Mailbox aliases tab. See Mailboxes Configuration and Mailboxes Configuration.
  • Mailboxes Configuration.

The Mailbox Configuration pages combine the features in the Local recipients and the Email Alias pages and provide the preferred means to manage your mailboxes.

In the Admin Level or Domain Level Control Panel, select General > Mailbox Configuration.

There are three tabs:
