The TPC Port Availability service, formerly called Generic TCP, monitors the connectivity of a socket on a specified port on a device and, if the port is available, a specific TCP service functioning on the port.
After the port has successfully passed the test for connectivity, the service can continue on to use an appropriate command string to test the TCP service it is monitoring and a validation string against which to check the response it receives. The availability results of the TCP service are then reflected on the status dashboard for the TCP port availability service. For example, the command string 201 receiving the appropriate response code 220 indicates that the FTP service is running and available for use. The service also measures the round trip time for the request and the DNS resolution.
You can set a maximum of six instances of the TCP port availability service on a device, with each instance monitoring a different port on the device.
The service does not use the Warning state.

The threshold that determines whether the device name can be resolved.
If an FQDN has been specified, the service searches for its IP address. If the IP address is found, the state will be Normal. Otherwise, it will be Failed, based on the default settings.
If an IP address has been specified, the service checks only the IP address's format. If the format is correct, the state will be Normal. Otherwise, it will be Failed, based on the default settings.
