Windows Backup service
The Windows Backup service monitors the Windows Backup and Restore feature on managed Windows devices. SolarWinds N-central can monitor Windows Backup and Restore on devices provided that they meet the following minimum requirements:
- The operating system on the device is either Windows 2008 R2, Windows 2012, or Windows 2012 R2.
- You applied a Professional license to the device in SolarWinds N-central .
- You have a current SolarWinds N-central agent (Version 22.214.171.124 or later) installed on the device.
- You installed Windows Backup and Restore on the device.
- You installed Windows PowerShell 3.0 on the device.
Windows 2008 R2 devices must also have the Command-line Tools option enabled when installing Windows Server Backup on the device.
To monitor Windows Backup jobs on a managed device
- Run a discovery job and import the devices that use Windows Backup and Restore functionality.
- Verify that the Windows Backup service has been associated with the device by clicking All Devices > <device name> > Status tab.
- If the Windows Backup service is not associated with the device, click All Devices > <device name> > Update Monitoring Software > Upgrade Agent > Now (or Always).
- If this fails to associate the Windows Backup service to the device, confirm that the requirements stated above have all been met and re-run the asset discovery job.
Once you import the device and the asset discovery has completed (approximately five minutes), SolarWinds N-central applies the Windows Server Backup service template automatically to the devices. The template associates the Windows Backup service for each active backup job that it detects.
