KBA20009: How to Correct Stale Services After Changing your N-central Server's IP

Knowledge Base Article #: 20009
Applicable Versions: N-central 6.5, 6.7, 7.x, 8.x, 9.x

Introduction

If you change your N-central Server's IP without first making the appropriate changes, your Agents and Probes will most likely go "stale".

If the Agents and Probes are configured to communicate to a FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) and some customers are reporting stale after your server changes IP's, it is probably just because the new IP for the FQDN has not yet been propagated to the DNS of the customer's site. This can take upto 48 hours, although is typically done within 1-4 hours.

If your Agents and Probes are not configured to communicate with a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN), all of your services will go stale.

If you are able to revert your N-central Server to its former IP, please do so.

Otherwise, you will need to modify your network settings per the aforementioned article and then manually modify the configuration of each Agent and Probe, and restart its services. Please follow the steps below:

Modify Your Network Settings

  1. Log into the Administration Console (NAC) on your N-central Server
  2. Click on Default Settings
  3. Modify the Endpoint server address field accordingly, substituting it with the new IP information
  4. Be sure to click the Propagate checkbox next to any fields you modify.
  5. Click OK to return to the main screen.
