If you change a Probe's credentials (for example, the password for the account a probe monitoring) you must also make this change in the Probe's configuration:

If you are using a version of SolarWinds N-central

  • older than 9.2, complete Procedure 1 (only)
  • at version 9.2 or greater, complete both procedures

Procedure 1

  1. Stop the Windows Software Probe and Windows Software Probe Maintenance services in SERVICES.MSC
  2. Change the service credentials by right clicking on each service and selecting: Properties > Log On. Ensure that you type in your full credentials (including the domain name).
  3. Create a file named "STARTUP.INI" in the bin folder of the probe. By default: X:\Program Files\N-Able Technologies\Windows Software Probe\bin
  4. Type this as its contents (replace the necessary values):
    username=yourdomain\yourusername
    password=yourpassword
  5. Restart the Windows Software Probe and Windows Software Probe Maintenance services in SERVICES.MSC
  6. The startup.ini should be deleted automatically when services restart.

Procedure 2

  1. Stop the NablePatchRepositoryService service.
  2. Right click the service name and select Properties.
  3. Click the LogOn tab and update the credentials to match those used by the Probe.
  4. Restart the service.
